Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, October 20th, 2009 - Last Saturday the Presidential Suite at The Somerset on Grace Bay welcomed hundreds of sophisticated and savvy shoppers during a special fundraising event In the Pink, hosted by the resort to raise money for the Cancer Society in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In The Pink opened its doors from 5pm where five en-suite bedrooms, as well as the suite's main lobby, featured a wide selection of donated designer clothes and accessories for sale. The event which raised $6,582 for the Turks & Caicos Cancer Society began with cocktails and nibbles in the suite and allowed guests to try on before buying, hundreds of different items of clothing and accessories with many big designer brands available.
Guests received complimentary pink lip make-overs and there was a prize for the best pink item worn to the event which was won by Mary-Lou VanderHeide. The fun didn't stop there and from 7pm guests were welcomed to 'paint the town pink' during a special after-party, a Girls Night Out gathering which continued in the resort's stunning Pearl Bar for complimentary pink cocktails before later moving on to the Gansevoort for more complimentary pink sangria cocktails.
The clothing and accessories were donated by many individuals most of which was either brand new or only slightly worn, which meant that shoppers at the event not only scooped some excellent bargains on the day but also raised much-needed funds for a cause.
Karen Whitt, General Manager of The Somerset Resort and event founder was thrilled by the overwhelming response the event received. "We've held similar events to this in the past but this charity fundraiser has undoubtedly received the most attention and support to date. The event was a massive success and we plan to make In The Pink an annual fixture on our event calendar here at the resort. We would like to pass on special thanks to the companies that donated raffle prizes but also to all of the event hostesses and their friends for making the event such a massive success".
Congratulations to the prize winners on the day who included: Kylie McRay (Dinner at O'Soleil Restaurant), Scott Hagan (Spa Tropique Spa Package), Mary Withey (Dinner at Anacaona), Emi Smith (Jai's Swarovski earrings), Mary-Lou VanderHeide (Beaches Red Lane Spa Massage), Kim Gillette (Exhale Spa Pedicure) and Claire Radford (Paulette Joel's 'Peace' jewellery).
